time for new resolutions!
For years, I made resolutions that I couldn’t stick to.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few tips that have helped me create AND keep my New Year’s resolutions.

What do these have in common?
They are sooooo vague! 🤦♀️
When you set out to do something, be specific!
My husband Gary always says, “If you can’t see it, how can you expect to receive it?”
Take a look at these same resolutions after I attach specific actions and goals to each of them.
Exercise more. ➡️ Go for a mile-long walk three times a week. ➡️ Lose five pounds in the next two months.
Read more. ➡️ Read one chapter a night. ➡️ Read ten books this year.
By the way, the same goes for prayer.
Don’t just pray for “more” money. What exactly does more money even mean? If you can’t define it, you can’t obtain it. 🤷♀️
Instead, pray and believe for specific things: being debt-free, paying cash for a house, being able to save a down payment for a rental property.
First Chronicles 4:10 (NIV) tells us, “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.”
Does that sound vague? No!
Intention should be at the heart of every action. That means every resolution should have a specific action and the desired goal in mind.

Does It Matter to YOU?
Are your resolutions for the culture or for you? 🤔
I mean, are they things that are really important to YOU or things you feel like you “should” be doing?
Your life can’t be about “shoulds” all the time!
Of course, you need to do certain things like paying your bills 💵 and doing your taxes, but your life needs to be about more than “should.”
Resolutions are a great chance to evaluate the areas of your life that you would like to improve and set tangible goals to get there.
Think about things you want to experience more of this year like relaxation. Set aside 10 minutes a day to sit down and take a breath. Easy goal, big payoff. 🙌
Plus getting yourself into a relaxed mind-set will assist you with bigger goals like achieving more at work or moving past a personal or professional conflict.
You may feel like your resolutions are too small, like you “should” be achieving something bigger, but success happens one small step at a time!
So, let me ask you again. Are your resolutions things you “should” be doing or things you want to do?

The Best Defense
Whether you like it or not, there will be roadblocks ⛔ for your resolutions, and the best way to prepare for the roadblocks is to create a plan.
We have all heard the saying, “The best defense is a good offense.”
For example, say your resolution is to lose weight by giving up fast food 🍟, and you know you have a business trip coming up. 😳
Do you see a potential problem???
One key to success in anything is being honest with yourself about challenges you might face!
Let’s be real; trips are a great excuse to let good eating habits go out the window.
I can’t cook for myself. What am I supposed to do, starve?
It’s impossible to eat healthy on the road.
Sound familiar? 🤦♀️
Put down the excuses and start creating an offensive strategy, a plan to help you get ahead of the temptation.
For example, eat a big meal at home before you leave.
Pack lots of healthy snacks for the plane.
Research healthy, affordable eating around your hotel.
Planning your way through the obstacles will improve your chances of having successful resolutions!
